I would like to introduce myself to many of you whom I may not have had the opportunity to meet just yet. As the 2018-2019 President of the Jacksonville Dental Society, I would like to extend a sincere invitation to join or renew membership in our local society.
We just wrapped up a very exciting year, which was carefully planned and executed by our past president, Dr. Samira Meymand. Our final event was a fun-filled evening at the TIAA Bank Field including appearances by Jaxson de Ville, the Jaguars cheerleaders and even Telvin Smith, Jaguars #50! We had a wonderful turnout and even had many current members renew their membership for the upcoming year.
This year is already off to a great start. We have two new members of our executive board for 2018-2019: Dr. Grady Johnson is our incoming Treasurer, and Dr. Patrick Weaver is our incoming Secretary. We also have a new Executive Director, Ms. Virginia Smith, who has been working with our society for the past few months. Drs. Johnson and Weaver join me, Vice President Dr. Millie Tannen and Past President Dr. Samira Meymand to round out our executive board.
Many of you may know we created a new website last year which you can find at www.jaxdentalsociety.com. In an effort to improve our email communication, we recently created a new email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. We also have a new office location at 2950 Halcyon Lane, Suite 301C, Jacksonville, FL 32223 as well as a new phone number: 904-513-8234.
Our list of this year’s events can be found on our website, and we will kick off our first dinner meeting in September. The following dinner meetings for our members will be held at the Deerwood Country Club:
September 20th: Dr. Patrick and Dr. Robert Weaver: “Treating the Pediatric Patient.”
October 25th: Dr. John “Obie” Sullivan: “Multiple Mini Topics In Clinical Endodontics”
November 15th: Dr. Noel Rodriguez: “Dental Ceramics: Properties & Guidelines for Material Selection”
February 22nd: Dr. John Cavallaro: “The Tooth or the Implant; Critical Decision-Making for Contemporary Treatment Plans”
In addition to our dinner meetings, we will hold our annual Give Kids A Smile event on February 2, 2019, at the North Campus of FSCJ. Dr. Millie Tannen, who is organizing the event, will be communicating with everyone soon about forming a committee and recruiting volunteers.
Our Spouse’s Night will be planned for an evening in May 2019, and although it will be tough to top the most recent Spouse’s night, I can assure you it will be an evening that you don’t want to miss.
I look forward to continuing to support our local, regional, and state organized dentistry as I lead our Jacksonville Dental Society. I hope to see you all at our first dinner meeting in September, and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have about joining our organization this year!
Dr. Bethany A. Douglas, DMD
